Stretching is a forgotten daily necessity that awakens the body and has great healing benefits. We all correlate exercise with the need to stretch but the fact is that we need stretching all the time to help our bodies function well.

You might consider stretching more often if you knew about these great benefits:

  • improves circulation
  • helps keep ligaments supple and improves range of movement
  • enhances muscular coordination
  • reduces back, neck and limb pain
  • reduces tension headaches

Our chiropractors recommend stretching a minimum of once a day to maintain wellness. If you have a specific health condition you may be prescribed specific stretching exercises to help enhance your chiropractic or massage treatments.

Try these easy stretches to get you started:

1. Forward bend

Standing up straight, put your hands above your head and stretch up, pulling your hands as high as you can to the ceiling. Then slowly bend forward from your hips with your arms down as far as you can. Try not to bend your back too much in this position.

2. Leg stretch

Sitting on the floor, place one foot on the thigh of the opposite leg and extend the other leg. Reach forward as far as you can, trying to touch your toes. Repeat with the other leg.

3. Arm stretch

Interlace your fingers behind your back. Pull arms backwards as far as you can. Interlace fingers to the front. Palms out push your hands away from you as far as you can, dropping your shoulders.
