Musculoskeletal Therapy / Myotherapy Massage

Experienced, results focused massage therapists can help you get, and stay, pain free.

Massage Brisbane

Myotherapy is not as common as remedial massage, but in many cases it is much more effective.

Myotherapists are bachelor qualified and have a much higher level of education than a massage therapist.

If you can imagine what it would be like if a physiotherapist and a remedial massage therapist were blended into one, this is what a myotherapist can offer.

This means you get the diagnostics of physio style training, and the more hands on treatment involved with remedial massage.

Our Myotherapist Lauren can help you get out of pain and empower you to do what you need to to stay pain free.

How does myotherapy massage work?

Ing 33594 211338 1 (1)

Myotherapy massage, sometimes known as musculoskeletal therapy, helps patients to get out of pain by releasing points of tension, loosening tight muscles and ligaments, finding the root cause of your issues and providing a rehabilitation plan so that you can work towards being pain free for good.

Some of the techniques that may be used by your Shift Brisbane Myotherapist:

  • Mobility and range testing
  • Joint and muscle function tests
  • Remedial massage techniques
  • Myofascial release work
  • Soft tissue work
  • Deep tissue massage
  • Trigger point release
  • Joint mobilisations
  • Strapping
  • Dry Needling
  • Cupping

During your initial myotherapy massage appointment, you’ll be assessed by your practitioner. Your therapist will also ask you specific questions about your condition to determine what the best treatment will be for you. You’ll also receive an exercise and rehabilitation program if needed to help get you feeling good as soon as possible.

When your body has been out of sorts for a while, there can be a little tension as we try to release it. Sometimes deep fascia work and specific releases may be uncomfortable momentarily. Your therapist will always check with you throughout the treatment to make sure any discomfort is manageable.

Myotherapists are trained in advanced techniques that use the minimum amount of pressure to exert the maximum amount of results.

Until we assess you and give you your first treatment, it can be difficult to know what your body will need. For most chronic conditions, some relief will occur after the first session, but it will take at least 3-4 to really begin to shift the problem. As you progress through your treatment (and do your at home care) your appointments will become further apart and your body will feel better and better.

At Shift we only employ registered, qualified massage therapists that have a minimum of 5 years experience. The term ‘massage therapist’ can be used quite loosely, many therapists will practice after a 6 month course.

Our myotherapists hold a Bachelor degree, a much higher level of education that massage alone.

Our therapists have extensive training in the physiology of the human body and the experience to find the root cause of the issue.

This means you’ll need less treatments and will be on a maintenance program sooner than you would with remedial massage alone.
