Tui Na Massage is a form of massage used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is regularly used alongside modern techniques to treat a range of conditions, from diarrhea to short-sightedness.

The term Tui Na, which is pronounced “twee naw” means to “pinch and pull.” Unlike other forms of massage, Tui Na is not used to for relaxation, but rather to redirect disharmonious patterns of qi, or “chi”, in the body.

In a manner similar to acupuncture, our TCM specialists use Tui Na to harmonise the yin and yang in your body by manipulating the Qi in the acupuncture channels.

Tui Na often includes “acupressure,” where our practitioners use finger pressure instead of needles to stimulate the acupuncture points.

Our Traditional Chinese Medicine specialist Zarah Adaniel can help you get out of pain and empower you to do what you need to stay pain free.

How does Tui Na Massage work?

The philosophy of Tui Na massage are based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, which focuses on the emotional and physical parts of a person’s well-being, as well as aspects such as climate, relationships, and diet.

The underlying philosophy of Tui Na massage is that true health can be achieved when one has found harmony and balance inside themselves and their environment.

Similar to acupuncture, Tui Na Massage uses the same energetic meridians and acupoints to balance the Qi and blood in your body, leading to better health.

Qi that’s flowing incorrectly can cause blockages, such as poor blood circulation in the affected area. Tui Na can help remove these energetic blocks that are causing Qi stagnation.

During your initial Tui Na Massage appointment, you’ll be assessed by our practitioner. Your therapist will also ask you specific questions about your condition to determine what the best treatment will be for you. During this time, you can ask any questions you have about the treatment before it begins.

When your body has been out of sorts for a while, there can be a little tension as we try to release it. Sometimes the work we do and specific releases may be uncomfortable momentarily. But your practitioner will always check with you throughout the treatment to make sure any discomfort is minimal and manageable.

TCM specialists are trained in advanced techniques that use the minimum amount of pressure to exert the maximum amount of results.

Until we assess you and give you your first treatment, it can be difficult to know what your body will need. For most chronic conditions, some relief will occur after the first session, but it will take at least 3-4 to really begin to shift the problem.

As you progress through your treatment (and do your at-home care) your appointments will become further apart and your body will feel better and better.

At Shift, we only employ registered, qualified practitioners that have a minimum of 5 years of experience.

Our Acupuncture and Tui Na practitioners old a Bachelor’s degree, a much higher level of education than massage alone.

Our practitioners have extensive training in the physiology of the human body and the experience to find the root cause of the issue.

This means you’ll need fewer treatments and will be on a maintenance program sooner than you would with massage alone.
