How remedial massage works to ease pain
Remedial massage and myotherapy massage is recommended for basic complaints like sore muscles or achiness but really shines when the issue is chronic, injury-related or sports-related. At Shift at Brisbane Natural Health, our massage therapist team assess the cause of pain or dysfunction and work with you to improve your health over time.
During your initial remedial massage or myotherapy massage appointment, you’ll be assessed by your practitioner. Your therapist will also ask you specific questions about your condition to determine what the best treatment will be for you. You’ll also receive an exercise and rehabilitation program if needed to help get you feeling good as soon as possible.
After your visit
After your visit, you can expect to feel relaxed and calm. You may experience some muscle soreness in the next day or two but that is your body doing its job to heal from the injury/ies you came into the clinic for. You will feel amazing in a couple of days after the treatment!

FAQs.
Both remedial massage therapists and myotherapists can help you with tight muscles, pain and discomfort. If you have a specific or chronic condition, often seeing an Myotherapist first will help you gain a better insight to the cause of the issue and what you need to do to fix it. Myotherapists are often better at finding the cause of the issue and identifying if you need to be referred to other therapists. This is particularly helpful if you have a chronic condition that is slow to respond to treatment.
If a relaxation massage is what you’re after then a Remedial Massage Therapist is the way to go. We usually find even in our relaxation massage patients there is some tightness and knots to work out – so it ends up being a combination of both!
When your body has been out of sorts for a while, there can be a little tension as we try to release it. Sometimes deep fascia work and specific releases may be uncomfortable, momentarily. Your therapist will always check with you throughout the treatment to make sure any discomfort is manageable.
Our therapists are trained in advanced techniques that use the minimum amount of pressure to exert the maximum amount of results.
A one-hour Remedial Massage appointment with a senior practitioner is $125. We know that there are plenty of places in Brisbane that are offering a 60 minute remedial massage for less than this. We also know that our treatments are specific, effective and that you’ll likely need less.
Health fund rebates are available – please check with your health fund provider before your appointment.
Yes! Rebates will all the major health funds are available for both myotherapy massage and remedial massage provided that you have extras cover. Check with your fund to make sure you’re covered.
We have HICAPS so you can claim for your massage on the spot.
Until we assess you and give you your first treatment, it can be difficult to know what your body will need. For most chronic conditions, some relief will occur after the first session, but it will take at least 3-4 sessions to really begin to shift the problem. As you progress through your treatment (and do your at-home care) your appointments will become further apart and your body will feel better and better.
Yes, remedial massage is a safe (and relaxing) treatment to have if you are pregnant and in the second and third trimesters. If you are pregnant and have any questions about our massage services, please give us a call on 07 3367 0337.
At Shift at Brisbane Natural Health, we only employ registered, qualified massage therapists that have a minimum of 3 years of experience. The term ‘massage therapist’ can be used quite loosely, many therapists will practice after a 6-month course.
Our therapists have extensive training in the physiology of the human body and experience to find the root cause of the issue. This means you’ll need fewer treatments and will be on a maintenance program sooner than you would with remedial massage alone.
